Wrocław's old Jewish Quarter
It was in this square that in World War II the city's Jews were assembled for deportation to the concentration camps. At first they were taken to the Gross-Rosen camp, which is fairly close to Wrocław; later their destinations were to include Auschwitz and Terezin/Theresienstadt. About 8,000 Jews from
Wrocław died in the camps.
Wrocław's White Stork synagogue is in this complex, and is the centre of the city's growing Jewish community.
