MF Nooksack - Bear creek tributary
Field season continues and while the snow pack is dismal it's making for some great days outside. I show a lot of pictures of engineered wood and logjams on this photo blog and here is a great example of why.
This is a picture of natural wood in a small floodplain tributary to the Middle Fork Nooksack with mature forest buffer. You can see how much wood is in the channel bed holding grade (preventing incision) and creating complexity for fish habitat. Given enough time and instituting forest practices to prevent logging within the floodplain many of the systems we work in would naturally restore themselves...
