Bargello Coats of Arms

I went to the Bargello Museum in Florence this morning. Its collection consists mainly of sculptures (including many ceramics by the Della Robbias).  Donatello is perhaps the major artist, with the best selection of his works anywhere, but Desiderio da Settignano is close behind. I was also very struck by Verrochio's David, which somehow seemed particularly human.

Aside from the sculptures, the walls of the courtyard--here you see only most extensive--include many coats of arms from the Renaissance.  I find them fascinating, but they are not an easy subject.

In the afternoon we took at train to Lucca, where we'll spend the next three nights. Our first brief walk was mouth-watering--stay tuned.
