a return

reflections

today i wandered along the river, finding broken warehouses and deserted manufacturing plants.  so much beauty in their history and decay.  i took many photos.  and yet - i am posting a photo of a building of this century.

leaving the river, i climbed the hill to campus for the view.  as the far shore faded into the mist, i knew i had found my shot.  (for whatever reason, i do love what moody weather can do for a landscape.)  i was standing next to the performing arts center.  it was part of my view.  i left it in the shot.

many criticize "glass" buildings for lacking scale, lacking context, lacking ornament.  they're right.  they can lack those things. yet today, in this weather, the performing art center was strong enough not to upstage the misty view.  their adjacency was kind and supportive, the line between almost invisible.  sometimes, true character comes from remaining silent.
