MURCHISON MONUMENT
Earlier today, en-route to Skye, I stopped for 'a stretch of the legs'. This memorial to Col. Donald Murchison stands, secluded by a wooded area, on the coastal side of the Balmacara to Kyle road. The monument marks the Colonel's bravery in collecting rents for the Fifth Earl of Seaforth - an exiled supporter of the Jacobite cause. Col. Murchison was caught and imprisoned in the Tower of London, later gaining a pardon and lands from King George I, in exchange for an oath of loyalty to the crown!
