Creature in the Tree

Not a bird, not a plane, but some kind of mammal. This might be a round tailed ground  squirrel. It might also be a pack rat. It is climbing in a mesquite tree to eat succulent new growth. There is a small two inch hole under the tree. It can have the tree but it better stay away from my roses!
