All in this together
Here's Miles showing his support for blipfoto, in whatever form it will take.
I've been all over the internet today, keeping up with any news that I can find.
I've also been a little frustrated with some of the comments that I've been reading. Many blippers have invested our time and money into the site and our journals, but there seems to be a sense of entitlement that everything should carry on "how it was". The sheer success of the site and the community here has led it to be the victim of its own success, and with increasing costs, you'd have to be very naive not to expect to see some sort of change to bring in some money.
I sincerely hope that we all carry on as blippers and that our journals and friendships will all remain intact. I also desperately hope that blipcentral will return and are able to continue their great work. Remember, whether old format or new, none of this would be here without them. I am a lifetime member and that decision was an indication of my commitment to blipping.
Having said that, I'd welcome a buyout that would allow Joe to make some money from his incredible idea, as it must be incredibly frustrating to have built such a thing and not be able to bring in the money to keep it afloat. The site has already changed. Its format changed and yet the essence remains. Some of the changes I'm not a fan of, others I love. If there really are half a million blippers, then nothing's going to please everyone, and blipcentral forcebly has the last word.
I sincerely hope that we can all carry on - I think that our best chance is to show the buyers that WE are what makes the site great.
May we keep doing so.
