Brimstone

Clear skies this morning, so Pepper and I made our first spring visit to Howe Ridding Wood, in the hope of seeing butterflies and bumblebees.
Success! Several peacocks, and a brimstone! They say that if the first butterfly you see is yellow, it will be a good summer, so let's hope that is right.
We also heard our first chiff chaff, the daffodils were opening, and the green hellebores were flowering.
Quite a morning.
Back at home, my queen buff tailed bumblebee was feeding on the butter burr which I planted some years ago. It has been spreading quite vigorously at the end of the garden, and I was beginning to wonder if it was a mistake. It is one of the first plants to flower in the spring and so a valuable nectar source, so long as it doesn't spread to the rest of the garden.
I fear that's the end of the fine weather, as we need clear skies for the solar eclipse tomorrow, no chance!
