Sally Mair - Loving life

Colour in the garden

This corner of the garden is out of sight of our windows, so it was lovely to see that the Rhododendron praecox had burst into flower. Most rhododendron are evergreen, but this one sheds most of its leaves and, more like an azalea, flowers before most of the leaves re-appear.
I bought this one for Colin on his 30th birthday. It has moved house with us twice and is doing well as we retired last year!
This is a very dull corner at the moment, but will soon be vibrant with shades of pink. In front, the sprawling green leaves are a Rock Rose, and the dull brown twigs behind are a pink Clematis Montana Rubens which is also a great age. There are paeonies behind the sundial, so lots of bright colours soon.
