Eclipse
The Said Business School was the place to be this morning for a mass eclipse watch. They didn't have enough glasses so we were all asked to share which proved to be a wonderful way to meet people, and what interesting people there are in Oxford. An Egyptologist told me about Egyptian astronomical knowledge and beliefs; a physicist patiently explained something that quite honestly I am never going to understand; one group used a metal colander to make a pin-hole (or rather holes) camera; astronomers of all shapes and sizes were out in abundance; the estate agent brought us all coffee; and I bumped into many old friends and neighbours too.
You can see a great image of the progression of the eclipse from Oxford Physics and also the crowds outside the SBS.
It was a wonderful start to the day culminating with my first ever selfie with these new friends before we all wandered off in our different directions.
