Diplomacy, not bombs

I'm always grateful for people who find the courage and the energy to leave the comfort of their sofas and stand up for something they believe in.

The Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group  staged a demonstration Thursday afternoon to support diplomatic rather than military responses to troubles in Iraq and Syria. I'm meeting peace groups in Portland, trying to learn how we can combine our energies.  Veterans for Peace, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and Jewish Voice for Peace were all part of this particular action. Dan Handelman of Portland Copwatch was present with a heavily-footnoted and well-researched handout that warns, "World War III: You're Swimming In It" and documents drone strikes and military actions already taking place. We hear little about this from the commercial media.
