Four Wheel Drive to Poolburn

The Church Picnic was a huge success, with 11 4wd's and 30 people heading for the hills.  The first rough road was 'Thompson's track', which took us from Tarras to Omakau.  On the way we had a stop at an old gold field, where there was a stamper battery which had been restored. After morning tea we had a quick trip through the historic town of Ophir, and along the dusty road (Dunstan Trail) to Poolburn, where we had our lunch.  This photo was taken at our lunch spot.  We headed back to Wanaka via Galloway and Alexandra.  All in all a great day out, except for the dull flat light.
