Statue of Richard the Lionheart.
This statue of Richard 1st is situated in Old Palace Yard outside the Palace of Westminster. The statue was installed in 1860. The statue has had a few problems during its life, starting with tail falling off the day after it was installed and it has been discovered that the Bronze was riddled with air holes as a result of poor casting. During the second world war, a German bomb landed a few metres away from it and it was peppered with shrapnel. As a result of the blast, the tail was damaged and the sword was bent. In 2009, the statue was subject to a restoration and conservation project. It is a grade ll listed building.
