First Day of Spring

March 21 and the first day of Spring is officially here. Even the temperature of the last two days has risen sufficiently to bring reality that a new season has begun.
I have been watching blossom on trees all week, not to mention the sudden profusion of daffodils and crocuses. Even the magnolia in the garden looks as though it will burst into bloom any day.
So what is it about the onset of Spring, which to my mind is possibly the most significant time of the year.
For a start days are getting longer, at present about 12 hours of daylight every day and increasing in length as time goes on. OK, the clocks do not change until next weekend to give us daylight in the evenings, but already the signs of spring are now truly with us.
It’s a time of rebirth and regrowth. Rejuvination if you like.  And the world around us takes on a different perspective.
The downside, if you have a garden, is that it is not only blossom on the trees which springs into life.  So does grass, and I spent much of yesterday afternoon giving the lawn its first cutting of the year.

I love Springtime and all the colour it puts into our lives . . . returning to the prospect of mowing the lawn every week for the next seven or eight months is another matter!
