Action Men

What do you do just before tea on a scorcher of a day in our town? Paddle in the river so it seems.

The little one and I had noticed folks down on the riverbank and in the river when we had passed over the bridge just before 11 and so after a long afternoon of doing mostly what we did yesterday in the garden, we headed down to the Don just before tea.

The same river that we stayed away from because of extreme high tides just a couple of weeks ago, was shallow, calm and very inviting. So in we went.

The little ones tried to sail their action men in plastic bottle boats they had made earlier in the day but the men just toppled and sunk, so we quickly ditched them on the bank and tried other things. Trying to catch fish was also a bit futile so in an attempt to get to a bit of the riverbank which was too deep to paddle to, the little ones just started swimming! When they realised how incredible it was to be swimming in the river, they just kept at it. For ages.

First outdoor swimming experience of the year. Nice.

And again, with the comment from yesterday about being glad we don't live in a coastal town with a pier. I'm not ready to see that. Not yet.
