Fresh air & fun

Another lovely time blowing away the cobwebs at the beach at Whitstable. And cold. According to TripAdvisor, the Tankerton Slopes, pictured, rank 3rd in popularity of things to do and see, with Tankerton Beach (10th). The picture is taken from The Street (12th on TripAdvisor), a shingle spit extending more than 1km at low tide. Watch out, the tide comes in fast. Looks like we did quite a bit of TripAdvisor highlights in the short time we were there.

In addition to being a hot second home destination for Londonites, Whitstable has a number of claims to fame .....

During the Roman period oysters were harvested here .... and still are.
The town was first recorded in the Domesday book of 1086, under the name Witenstaple, meaning ‘the meeting place of the white post’, after a local landmark
The oldest railway bridge in the world was in Whitstable.
The Whitstable Diving Company was the first in the world and many of the first divers lived in "Dollar Row" and they were named for the money they earned.
