Afternoon Tea

Pleasant morning reading. In the afternoon spent a fascinating couple of hours with a local guide walking through the jungle learning about the local ecology and the legend of Jim Thompson, who disappeared here in 1967.

Corrupt practices have led to unregulated farming practices, house building which has destroyed the Cameron Highlands in the most crass and tragic manner. We were able to see a small portion of what is left of the jungle. Worth reflecting on what he Scottish Highlands might have been like without building controls and, latterly national park status.

The Jim Thompson story is a real shaggy dog saga, beautifully played out by our local guide Madi; our fellow walkers were a couple of Australians. Difficult to argue with their assessment of this being the most interesting walk they had ever undertaken.

What better way to relax after the walk than enjoy afternoon tea- actually the first time I have indulged - is this a sign of old age? Turned out to be an enjoyable experience.
