Reunion: The Return of the Dancing Girl!

Can there be any more sure sign of spring than the return of the Dancing Girls? And so this turned out to be a very special day, one in which we celebrated a joyous reunion!

Some of you may remember the story of the Dancing Girl who came for Christmas. I told of her adventures in several of my Blip postings around Christmas, and I'll include links to all of those at the bottom of this post.

The last news was very sad, of course, as we bid farewell to the Dancing Girl just a few days into the new year. The Crittergators and I knew we would miss her, of course. But her orange Cat-Steed, well, I feared his poor heart just might break. For weeks, his head hung low and his tail flew only at half-mast.

But earlier this week, I saw signs of hope! Several bright pink buds appeared on the fuchsia plant (which I cleverly moved indoors to a sunny window at work in mid-October, when the temperatures dropped), and I knew what that heralded: the return of the Dancing Girls!

On this morning, the Cat-Steed discovered the Dancing Girl sitting quite contemplatively on a seashell, of all things! "Is it you?" he cried; "Can it really be YOU!?"

Then, there was a tearful reunion, as the cat sniffed and sniffed, and walked around in wonder, just looking and looking, taking it all in. The Dancing Girl reached out gently with a tendril of her dress, and gave the cat skritches under his chin. The cat almost cried with delight. Yes, it was really her!

Well, of course, Daisy the hedgehog, who is relatively new to these parts, got to meet both the Dancing Girl and the orange Cat-Steed. She exhibited lovely manners as she said Hello, and showed no fear or anxiety, even when Dexter (aka Tabzilla) came by and tried to knock things to pieces, as is his custom.

The Dancing Girl was given back her golden crown, of course, which we had been holding onto for safe-keeping, and all was right with the world once again. Daisy even got a chance to try on the crown, and it matched her coloring just beautifully. Then the crown was restored to its rightful owner.

Much hilarity and joyfulness ensued, as you might imagine. For farewells are sad, but reunions are fantastically joyous! And so we celebrated on this day. Oh yes, we did!

And at the end of the day, the Dancing Girl was exhausted from all of the welcoming. And she took off her golden crown to let her head rest. And she sat on her seashell to think about everything that had happened, and to catch her breath.

And the big orange cat, whose broken heart had not only been mended, but was now full to bursting with joy, came over to her . . . and he gave her one long loving look. And then he placed his big orange head in her lap, and he began to purr. And it was the biggest, loudest, happiest, rumbliest purr the world has ever heard.

And they were happy once again.

The tune to accompany this tender reunion scene is Jewel, with You Were Meant for Me.
