Shakyamuni

Off visiting today. To the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni entering Nirvana. It is an astonishing sight and it took an ordinary car trip, an electric car journey, a cable car and 1000 steps to get there.

The statue is 49m long and 11m high. The materials were all carted 2.5km up the hillside by volunteers. It is hollow but hey had to stop folk getting in because of the graffiti they left.

This is low season which is why only Ellen can be seen. And some signs have Russian translations because they are generally the most common foreign visitors. Though not this year. Maybe the effect of Western sanctions.
