Just checking

We found ourselves down by the sea at Heysham this afternoon. A beautiful day, if a little chilly. It was high tide and waves were splashing onto the walkways. (I do think real sea has to have waves.)

We came across something we had never seen before – hundreds and hundreds of Oystercatchers just standing on a patch of grass, presumably waiting for the turning of the tide so they could go back down to the shoreline. Then all of a sudden a group of them swept up into the sky, flew out to sea and then back to the resting ground. A spectacular sight.  This is obviously a common thing around the Morecambe Bay area, but it’s the first time we had witnessed so many Oystercatchers in one place at one time.
