Mr. Dark's Pandemonium
By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.
No, not Macbeth but Ray Bradbury.
A fantastic story I first read as a child and Bradbury has the amazing skill to capture childhood, the feeling of summer, the feeling of being a young boy as well as the knowledge that it is slipping away from you.
I'd recommend it if you haven't read it before.
Since I was suffering from man flu this morning and couldn't get out of bed I took the day off. Peering between the curtains my head throbbing I could see it was a wonderful day outside. But the glare didn't go well with the feeling behind my eyes.
Needing drugs to abate my condition I ventured round the corner to the pharmacist. Medicines duly acquired I noticed trucks arriving. Not under the cover of darkness and silently as they did in Bradbury's novel but loud and colourful with belches of diesel fumes and cursing workers man handling heavy machinery into position.
Luckily I had taken my camera.
So here is the slightly ominous carnival setting up on The Meadows.
Slightly ominous in the same way clowns are you understand.
