The USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Nicknamed the 'Big Stick' after Roosevelt's advice on foreign policy,
'Speak softly, and carry a 'big stick'.

The 'Big Stick' has weighed anchor out in the Solent for about five days as it is far to big to actually come into Portsmouth Harbour.
I took this shot from the top of the Spinnaker Tower where we could all see the ship. I would have liked to got even closer, but we did not have time to drive round to Stokes Bay, off Gosport, due to other commitments. I will be posting some more pictures on my Flikr page (PspenB) soon.
To give you an idea of how big this vessel is, here are some facts about it,
Length 1,092ft = 30 London Buses,
Carries 90 Aircraft,
Displaces 100,000 tons of water,
Desalination plant on board makes 400,000 gallons of water from the sea daily.
A crew of more than 5600 which includes 3200 sailors and 2840 airmen.
Holds 3.3 million gallons of aviation fuel,
Contains 1,600 miles of wiring, 30,000 light fixtures and 1400 telephones.
All powered by two 550 megawatt nuclear reactors and has a top speed of 30 knots (35mph).
This is kinda big!!!!

This kind of makes our ships seem a bit whimpish, but we are the best anyway. Does size really matter!!

When you view it go large on it as you will see a lot more detail.

Enjoy and take care
