Cardboard Cathedral

When is 365 not 365? When its 364!
I thought yesterday was my 365th blip but turns out it was only 364- doh! So I pronouned my fondnest of blipping too early :)

Yestedays blip was a photograph of Christchurch cathedral in ruins after the 2011 earthquake, alongside a photograph of the cathedral prior to the disaster. Todays blip is the beautiful and modern Transitional Cathedral (known as the cardboard cathedal). It was designed by a Japanese architect to withstand any further earthquakes, although was designed to only be temporary with an estimated maximum lifespan of 50-years. Hopefully this will give sufficient time to renovate and try to restore the previous cathedral to its former glory.

Christchurch was a lovely place to visit! We walked around the re-start mall, visited the museum, explored the huge park and botanical gardens. We visited the beautiful green and white striped Antigua boat shed and went punting along the river Avon. We had tickets to the national Haka competition and were able to experience traditional Maori culture (singing, dancing, food). A trip to the gondola out of town took us to the top of the nearby mountain to get a spectacular view over Chistchurch. It was a wonderful end to our New Zealand trip!
