Rebuild

Back in we build 'em big I described the large steel structure and framing used in multi level buildings in the CBD.

This is a close view of a building on the corner of Armagh and Durham streets. They're massive and this is typical, particularly the cross bracing.

At least one other side of the building has it's concrete cladding on. Once built this won't be seen. But I did notice another smaller building (one or two levels) on the other side of the CBD that uses the cross bracing and structure on the outside as a design feature. That will be a blip another day :-)

There is a style of architecture appearing in Christchurch post-quake. It's mostly squat, braced and sturdy. And despite the concrete and steel, there is a distinctive style emerging that reflects the geological reality we live on. I like that far more than old stone buildings from another era, better suited to England.

Yep, I braved the road cones, lane restrictions and broken bits in the CBD after work.

Always an exciting ride ;-)
