Welcome Return Of Old Favourite
Not the best blip, but I only had my mobile to hand.
The Otley maypole, at 75ft, is reckoned to be the tallest in all England, if not the UK. Nine months ago it was removed by Elf 'n' Safety, having stood for more than a century, when an inspection found it to be rotten and there was the fear that it might suddenly keel over and brain one or several of the peloton in the Tour de France as it whizzed by. It wouldn't be the first time that concerns about having such a tall maypole had been raised; in the 19th century it was hit by lightning and the resulting discharge defenestrated the entire Civic Hall across the road.
Fifty-six thousand pounds and a lot of specialised work later, it is back.
Look in later for a pic of it in action.
