What does the day bring
This was the view from the car park in the Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve, while we waited for the rest of the local bird watchers to arrive. The sun was lighting up some of the sky as I wondered how wet we were going to get today.
Fortunately we had most of the rain while we were in a bird hide overlooking the river Exe estuary. An interesting day on this site with a variety of rare habitats - estuarine mudflats, dunes and semi fixed dune grassland. Birds seen included Brent Geese browsing on the golf course and in the estuary, Curlew, Dunlins, Crested Grebes, Common Scoter and Dunnocks. We were hoping to see Wheatears or Sand Martins but none were spotted.
