World Cup

There was no escaping it today even when we were walking along the Yarra River in Melbourne.  The final of the World Cup One Day Series was on at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and a record cricket crowd for the MCG was packed into the stadium just a little way down along the river from where we're staying.

CCN and I arrived mid-afternoon after a nice drive through the countryside on a glorious day.  We decided to go for our daily walk but this time it wasn't along a lovely country lane but along the Yarra River and there were people everywhere.  Just in front of Crown Casino a large crowd were watching the cricket on a big screen.  At this stage the Kiwis were not doing too well and I could see a couple of their countrymen looking a bit crestfallen.  I couldn't help myself and walked up to them and cheerfully said.  "Don't worry, it's not over till the fat lady sings and I've played enough kiwis on a squash court to know you're still in with a chance".  I have to admit they did look at me a bit strangely :-)

This image shows Aussie bowler Mitchell Johnson steaming in with one of his lethal fast bowling efforts.  The game is still going as I type so I guess the fat lady hasn't arrived yet.
