Gwynneville Pigeon Society
Walked around the streets of Wollongong and came upon this humble building, which occupies a prime piece of real estate, and is the home of the Gwynneville Pigeon Society.
I doubt that there are many meetings there these days.
I googled it and came up with a couple of references, but very little information.
There was a story about a pigeon fancier who'd joined 67 years ago and who owned a twenty year old hen which had flown from Bundaberg (in North Queensland) to Wollongong in fourteen hours.
That's nearly 1100 kms of continuous flying!
He was sitting in the dark waiting, and when he heard her flapping he said it lifted his heart.
Bloody amazing!
