Muizenberg Beach, False Bay, Cape Town
Cape Town itself is at the foot of Table Mountain, looking northwards into the Atlantic, and the sea there is rather chilly. False Bay is on the other side of the isthmus joining the Cape Peninsula to the mainland, and gets the warm Indian Ocean water, so is very popular with bathers, particularly surfers. Unfortunately it is also warm enough for sharks! Nowadays they actually have shark-watchers with binoculars on the slopes above the beach, and if the triangular fin is seen, an alarm tells the human swimmers to get out fast, and very strict lifeguards tell them off if they don't - we've seen this happen - but nothing so exciting when I took this pic!
