This is the most easterly of the 4000 meter peaks of the Alps and has been called the Ballroom of the Alps on account of its icy beauty. This splendid mountain massif because of the elegance of its lines and the impact of its bulk, is one of the most architecturally appealing in the Alps. The celebrated Biancograt (in Romansh, Crast'Alva) is the soaring arete profiled and is a popular target for mountaineers.
