West Dipton Burn
We began our walk along the burn at Diptonmill pub, and then climbed up the side of the narrow wooded valley to the boundary wall. The ground was black and slippery with mud, and crossed by numerous small waterfalls. The ewes in the fields beyond the wall stared and shouted to their lambs as they caught sight of us through gaps in the wall. Above there were curlews and buzzards.
As usual I found it difficult to choose a picture. I could have posted the pale birch trees standing in the sharp green wild garlic, or the pub itself, only five years away from celebrating its 200th anniversary, or even a portrait of one of the trees, but In the end I decided this wall reflects the quiet relationship of this tiny Hexhamshire valley with the agricultural land adjoining it.
