The Waggoners Memorial

Today we drove past this memorial in Sledmere and I decided to make it my blip for today. It was designed by Sir Mark Sykes in memory of the Wolds Waggoners and their story is told in the carvings on the memorial. They were local farm workers whose skill with horses and pole wagons was used in the first world war. They took food, fodder and ammunition to the front line. It was built in 1919.
