I've been rewatching Michael Mann films as research for my environment unit. I love the way he films cities. 

'More than any other contemporary filmmaker, Mann has shown an uncanny knack of unlocking the vitality and cinematic potential of urbanism.' 

It's quite interesting doing this kind of stuff at the moment. A lot of the halogen street lamps are being replaced by LED ones, so you get quite interesting mixes of light temps. That old orange glow is on the way out and it dates some of Mann's films as historic artifacts.
