The Wanderer ( again)
I wanted to show you more of Ana Maria Pacheco's sculpture ' The Wanderer ', currently in the Cathedral. I can't for the life of me work out now how to link to the original photo I blipped several days ago. The site has a lock on it!. Anyone understand ?.
Apart from all that old malarkey, last friday I went to the Cathedral to listen to Ana talk about this piece. Sadly she had to fly back to Brazil for her sister 's funeral, so instead a man from the National Gallery talked. He was witty, clever & very knowledgable about her, having fronted her being artist in residence there some years ago. I'd not known that the National's collection end at 1900, so the residents prog is an attempt to counter that.
References for this piece include Aeneas carrying his old father out of Troy, immigration, alienation , but also what I found helpful was the idea of each of us bringing our different understanding & therefore we become part of the work.
