Six of one...
Scotland v Gibraltar - a stroll in the park, surely?
But this is Scotland, and why do things the easy way when you can give your fans some nail-biting moments instead? We rolled up for what we expected would be our easiest football match ever - a Euro2016 qualifying tie against the lowest-ranked team on the continent. We could sit back, enjoy a barrowload of goals and go home with three points tucked away safely without breaking sweat.
Except that for the first 20 minutes Scotland huffed and puffed and couldn't break down the wall. A penalty goal put us 1:0 ahead and we relaxed. For all of a minute.
Gibraltar scored! Their first ever goal in a competitive international fixture. That was not in the script, and for the next ten to fifteen minutes it all looked as if it was going to go horribly wrong. The name Gibraltar was going to be placed alongside Iran, Peru, Costa Rica and the Faroe Islands in Scotland's football hall of shame.
However, normality was restored. Three further goals in the first-half and two more as Gibraltar tired near the end of the second-half presented a scoreline that the fans could be happy with. Steven Fletcher even scored a hat-trick - the first by a Scotland player since 1969 - but this was not quite the leisurely Sunday afternoon walk in the park that we expected.
