A Special bird

Some wet and windy weather on the way in the next 48 hours so I made the best of the early afternoon and had a walk up on to the moors above Glossop in search for a special bird.

This wasn't it - this is a Red Grouse, nice as it is, its not that special around here, in fact its 'locally common' as they say in the Field Guides.

No the bird I was looking for was the Ring Ouzel - a summer visitor to the moors and I was in luck but didn't get the photo because the Ring Ouzel saw me before I saw it.

The other name for the Ring Ouzel is the Mountain Blackbird and at a glance it would be possible to dismiss it as an ordinary Blackbird but no doubt on this occasion - the alarm call is a giveaway for a start!
