Leicestershire Flood Warden Briefing

Today started beautifully. A blue sky, a few fluffy clouds, and a magnificent display of magnolia buds en route to the Parish Council office to help Denyse post photos on the church website.

Things went downhill in the afternoon, with rain sweeping in. The weather forecast suggests little improvement before Friday.

Len and I abandoned Basil in the kitchen to attend a meeting of Leicestershire flood wardens at Blaby Council Offices, notably in the Council Chamber itself. We have volunteered to act as wardens in Shepshed. Quite a bit of PR needs organising. Good to be briefed by the Environment Agency. A local coordinating agency has been set up to act as a focal point for providing information and for alerting to flood events. Called the Local Resilience Forum, I'm not sure they've really taken PR to their hearts. I mean, would you know what that title meant?

A planning officer from Melton Mowbray told us that there is no such statement in the National Planning Document that says, 'Never Build on a Flood Plain!'
