One a Week - Project

Ajuy

This was the last car hire day sadly but possibly my favourite in terms of what we saw and where we ended up. The early part of the day was spent exploring the interior of the Island and photographing churches and other bits and pieces of architecture. The tour also included a brief walk up to the top of a Mirador which gave excellent albeit windy views of the whole Island.

A stop in Betnancuria to buy some small souvenirs and a book on Mojos was followed by Paraja for Ice Cream and a wander around. As it was ferriado last weekend in spain the locals were cooking up a parrilla which we were both keen to join but not bold enough to ask. We'd eaten anyway so would have been gluttony. Still there was a fun atmosphere in the bar where we stopped.

Final stop of the day was Ajuy and amazing black volcanic sand beach with very powerful waves crashing constantly down onto it. Despite arriving here at 4pm we managed to get a couple of hours of sun worshipping on the beach, followed by a cliff top walk and a sundowner at the Puesto del Sol bar at the top of the cliff. The guy who ran the place suggested we stopped at the restaurant down the street which we duly did and had yet another great fish dinner.
