Today's the day .......................... to do homework

I was shown round a lovely house today. 

It had originally been built in the early 1900s for the Headmaster of the Boarding School for boys next door - Aylwin College.  The lady who now owns the house showed me this exercise book.  It had been found beneath some floorboards during some renovation work recently carried out.

It had belonged to an Eric Wright who had been in Form IV - and the date at the front was 16th August 1927.  It was full of dictation and stories, all written in spidery, copperplate handwriting - in ink.  It was obviously homework because it had all been marked by a teacher.  Eric was a good student and quite often he got full marks.

I wonder what happened to him - and how his book came to be under the floorboards .........................?
