Stradie

Stradbroke Island or 'Stradie' as the islanders call it, is an island off the coast of South east Queensland. There are two islands, North & South.
The North Island is where most people go to and it also has more access.

The Ferry ride from the mainland departs from Cleveland which is a coastal suburb of Brisbane. Then it is a 40 min ferry ride, on the car ferry.

Captain James Cook made the first documented European sighting of the island in 1770 and named Point Lookout, but did not land. The first historically documented contact between Europeans and the local Aborigines was 1803 when Matthew Flinders landed in search of fresh water. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stradbroke_Island)

The Island is popular for 4WD camping on the beach, and holiday accommodation for others. Also for day trippers who just wish to visit.

Also there is a great Broadwalk around the Gorge at Point Lookout which is worth the trip.
