Derelict Thursday, the final

I have spent the last couple of hours searching t'internet to find the name of this derelict wreck in the Hunter River near Stockton.  After a very unproductive search I have deduced it may possibly be the Goolwa which was a paddle steamer which sank at her moorings in 1919.  I wouldn't put any money on it as there have been so many wrecks in this region that I can not be sure.  In the early 1800's there was a thriving trade in passage from Sydney to Morpeth which is further up the Hunter River so it could well be one of those vessels. Passage by sea in those days was a hazardous business.   More investigation is required and I may even have to call upon Stockton locals.  They are a strange bunch as we think they live overseas from us and are affected by toxic escapes from the industry across the river (you can see the fertiliser plant on the opposite bank in this image).

Many pelicans were using the wreck as a roost.  There were lots of squabbles as interlopers joined those already perching.

Well the Easter long weekend is here and tomorrow I plan to do NOTHING.  Hooray.
