Spring?

A really beautiful day but I don't seem to be functioning quite right: first I drop the lid of a container I love and it shatters, then I drop a plate which breaks and now my Canon 40D keeps displaying an Error 99 message.
I have tried with a different battery, with a different lens and a reformatted card,  opening and closing the card holder.. Sometimes I get one shot and then the error 99 message again. Does anyone have any good ideas or know how much this sort of thing is likely to cost? Or do I have to look for a new camera body?
