Once thriving, then derelict, now a museum
Brunel's SS Great Britain was built in Bristol in 1843 and from 1845 to 1886 she was a working ship. Then she was damaged in a storm and was used as a store ship in the Falklands but eventually she was scuttled in 1933. She was rescued by admirers who arranged for her to be brought back to her original dry dock in Bristol by putting her on a barge and towing her home in 1969.
