Tell-tale trails

We live under a major south-east to north-west flight path, with planes crossing directly over our home every two minutes or so, day in, and day out.
I am fascinated and would love to know which airline each plane belongs to and what their destination is.
I guess a lot originate in Europe and are trans-atlantic.

This morning the vapour trails of the main flight path were criss-crossed with others. When I first looked out there was a white St Andrew's Cross on a blue background, but by the time I got my camera prganised it had turned into a giant letter 'A'. Here it is.
