"Pon-pony"

I passed by this relic of times past in the window of a local café restaurant, and had to share my nostalgia!!

This mobylette was standard issue to us Volunteers in Ivory Coast (4 decades ago!!), and I got around the town of Divo in one much like this - minus the box on the back.  Luxury in this little village!  All my students could recognize "Miss" as I puttered by!

In the local vernacular language, Djoula, this is called a "pon-pony", an onomatopoeic description of the sound the motor makes:  "pon-pon-pon-pon".
