Bird of the day

In the 1960's, when I was born, this was one of the worlds rarest gulls. Less than 1000 pairs existed. Today it is still rare at only 10,000 pairs. I saw my first 14 years ago and it is still my second favourite gull (Heermann's gull holds 1st place). This is a Audoin's Gull. It rarely scavenges for food, it feeds at night out at sea and only on fish.

It is an especially elegant gull.
