Ser and Simon's Wedding.
Maggie and I were at the Mansfield Traquair today for Ser and Simon's lovely wedding. It was such a gorgeous day! The place itself is so stunning and the ceremony was beautiful and really touching, I was even tearing up at one point. It was a Humanist service and MsInk was Ser's best creature, they had reading's of two poems, one in English (To the Evening Star by William Blake) and one in Spanish (Poem 7 by Oliverio Girondo) and an adorable account of how they met and fell in love. It was all just exactly right :)
Afterwards we had lots of fizzy and mingling - so many of my favourite creatures were here today, it was so good to all be gathered together celebrating. Smu and I declared that there weren't many weddings where one of us could turn up in a skull skirt and the other a pink crown and totally fit in! Eventually the tables were ready and there were funny speeches (MsInk's non-speech just about set me off again! She presented Ser with an amazing altered art Don Quixote book she made herself including works donated from some of his closest friends) then very delicious vegetarian dinner and lots of great chat.
All the tables were named after places from their favourite tv shows (the place name cards and table cards handmade by the very talented Cinn) and ours was, of course, Sunnydale High. I may have stated my claim to the table sign immediately and snaffled it into my bag as soon as dinner was over and before anyone else had the same idea... (the top table was 221b Baker St, love it!) We also all got wee animals at our seats! Mine was a cat (which I promptly managed to drown in my wine glass, don't ask..) Maggie had a monkey (most appropriate) and Smu had Pegasus the flying horse, which is just perfect! Our table was made up of Smu, Cat, Dan, Stewart, Megan, Paul, MsDream, Kristy, Mags and myself, which was definitely the best table in the room (other than the top table, obvs) ;) And even better when dinner was finished and MsInk and Cinn could come and join us too.We just sat at the tables and chatted for ages and Carolann, Peikko, then Neil and Lorna also arrived. That's very nearly our entire book group in one place!
They had a great band playing really fab tunes but dancing is a bit beyond me at the moment and I was content just to sit for a while and have a couple of GnT's with Mags before the exhaustion and aches and pains became too much and we left around 10pm with lots of hugs for everyone.
Just a really wonderfully lovely day :)
