Orchid in jar

I was given this orchid for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, and it is in a very clever long vase thingy. It is supposed to protect the orchid from draughts and as such is probably a good idea in this draughty old house....but it doesn't seem right to keep something so beautiful under glass. What do you think?
