Full Steam Ahead
This is on board one of the steam trains of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, which is run entirely by volunteers. It is at the village of Toddington in Gloucestershire on the edge of the Cotswolds, and is part of the original Cheltenham to Stratford railway line which closed in 1960.
It re-opened in 1984 after a lot of renovation work and was then open for just a quarter of a mile. There has been a tremendous amount of work done, as the working section as it stands today is about 12 miles long. The plan is to continue renovations as far as Broadway, which is about another 3 miles away. I think there is some hope of it continuing all the way to Stratford again, but that would be a long time in the future.
We are officially old. One of us was heard saying to the other today "Shall we have a ride out this afternoon?". As if that wasn't bad enough, neither of us can remember which one of us uttered the immortal phrase.
