Cobra?

No, a vibrant skunk cabbage, or to give it its full name lysichiton americanus. It's big, bold, loves the damp and is quite pongy. There is another species which has dangerous looking purple speckled blooms that is even smellier but this one is pungent enough. Little creatures love it.
A fine, mild day and much work has been done in the garden. The trouble with these long light evenings is you forget to stop.
